Staff Augmentation for a Knowledge Marketplace Platform Rebuild

About the client

Pick My Brain is a knowledge marketplace connecting people who want guidance to the experts who can give it. Users book and pay for someone's time, knowledge, and experience, which lets experts earn from their expertise directly.

The Summary

Pick My Brain needed to rebuild its platform without pausing the one already serving users. We embedded developers directly into the in-house team to build PMB 2.0 with a modern interface and AI-driven features, while the same team kept the existing platform running. The company controlled the team size throughout.

Staff Augmentation for a Knowledge Marketplace Platform Rebuild

The Challenge

The product had been built up over several years and had fallen behind what the business needed. A full rebuild was the answer, but the company could not afford to go dark while it happened, and it could not justify hiring a permanent team to do it.

  • The existing product had aged out

PMB 1.0 needed a complete revamp rather than incremental fixes.

  • The old platform had to keep running

Users were still on PMB 1.0 throughout the rebuild, so it needed bug fixes and performance work while PMB 2.0 was being built.

  • Permanent hiring did not fit the need

Scaling required skilled developers, and the company wanted them without the cost and long-term commitment of full-time employees.

  • Team size needs to move with the work

Different stages of the rebuild called for different capacity, so the arrangement had to flex in both directions.

  • The new platform needed AI capability

PMB 2.0 had to bring AI-driven tools and a modern experience, not just a visual refresh.

The Solution

We embedded skilled developers directly into the in-house team rather than taking the project over. Our engineers worked alongside the client's own developers to rebuild the platform with a modern interface, stronger functionality, and AI-driven tools for user interaction and matchmaking. The same arrangement kept PMB 1.0 operational through ongoing bug fixes and performance work, and the client scaled the team up or down as each stage of the build demanded.

All Technologies Used

The Outcome

  • Helped take PMB 2.0 past 10,000 active usersafter launch, driven by the new interface, stronger functionality, and AI capability.

  • Kept PMB 1.0 running throughout the rebuildso existing users saw continuous service rather than a gap between versions.

  • Gave the client full control over team sizewhich let them add capacity for heavy phases and release it afterwards.

  • Supported a business turnaroundwith the company moving from difficulty to profitability.
